10 best&cheep Hotels in NYC

10 Best hotels in NYC

New York may be full of parks, ice cream, and toy stores, but rooms are often tiny, pools are scarce, and finding a great hotel for the family can be tricky. After months of sleeping at, photographing, and carefully comparing about 200 of the top hotels throughout New York City, we’ve awarded the following hotels for being the best for families.
  1. The DoubleTree Suites is one of the best hotel options for families in New York City. The big two-room suites all come with pull-out couches and either one king or two double beds; the latter can fit up to six people, a rarity in the area. And the location right on Times Square is as central as it gets for sightseeing.
  2. Hotel BeaconHotel Beacon
The Hotel Beacon is a popular pick with budget-conscious families, thanks to its quiet residential location, kitchenettes, and abundance of one- and two-bedroom suites with separate living rooms and sofa beds. It's rare to find rooms of this size with kitchenettes, especially in this price range. The nearby 1, 2, 3 subway line can shuttle families to popular attractions on the west side, such as Times Square.
  3. TRYP New York City Times Square SouthTRYP New York City Times Square South
There aren't many hotel rooms in New York City that can fit more than four guests -- but the Family Room at the Tryp can sleep up to eight, making this a gem for larger families. Prices are competitive, too, and the fun design and casual vibe are also draws. The location near Penn Station is convenient for those traveling to and from the city by train, and Times Square is just over a 10-minute walk to the north.
  4. Hilton Times SquareHilton Times Square
Large rooms, special kids' menus, an on-site movie theater, and plenty of nearby attractions in Times Square make the Hilton a great choice for families. Kids stay free in rooms with their parents, and standard and deluxe rooms with two double beds range from 330 to a palatial 360 square feet -- far bigger than the standard rooms in most New York hotels. The kids' breakfast buffet at Restaurant Above costs $10 and includes toast, eggs, pancakes, bacon, and juice.
  5. The Kimberly HotelThe Kimberly Hotel
At the Kimberly, all guest rooms are large, multibedroom suites. The one- and two-bedroom suites are a good choice, as they come with kitchenettes and an additional queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Cribs are free and rollaway beds are $30 per night. The Midtown East location is near the American Girl Store and FAO Schwarz.
  6. Gardens NYC–an Affinia hotelGardens NYC–an Affinia hotel
Huge suites with kitchens, kid-oriented amenities, and a location in a safe, quiet neighborhood (the Upper East Side) make the Affinia an excellent luxury option for families. For longer stays, families often opt for deluxe suites that also include patios and dining room tables -- especially rare treats in New York City. Kid-friendly attractions like the Central Park Zoo, Dylan's Candy Bar, and the famous dessert restaurant Serendipity 3 are all within walking distance.
  7. Omni Berkshire PlaceOmni Berkshire Place
Though most guests are business travelers, children are definitely welcome at the Omni Berkshire. At check-in, all kids under age 12 get a suitcase filled with games, puzzles, and coloring books, plus a kids cup with unlimited refills anywhere in the hotel. Housekeeping's standard turndown service includes milk and cookies. There's a kids' room service menu for the Fireside restaurant that includes, among other items, ants on a log, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and grilled cheese (no crust!).
  8. Hilton Garden Inn Times SquareHilton Garden Inn Times Square
Big rooms with two queen beds and microwaves make the Hilton Garden Inn a solid family pick. It's conveniently located in Times Square, near some of New York's best family attractions like Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, M&M World, and the world's largest Toys "R" Us.
  9. Though it has a reputation for being a party hotel, the Gansevoort is actually an excellent place for style-minded families. In addition to its sizable rooms and rooftop pool with a lifeguard on duty, perks include free baby amenities (from wipes to diapers to baby baths to strollers), free Nintendo Wii video game systems, and a room-service kids' menu with standards like chicken fingers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, grilled cheese, and cookies and milk (prices range from $9 to $13).zz
